갤러리 508은 예술의 다양한 창작을 소개하고 미술품 소장의 문턱을 낮춰 폭넓은 콜렉터층과 미술인구의 저변화에 기여하고자 2020년 2월, 한국을 대표하는 건축가 승효상의 설계로 청담동 아담한 터에 오픈하였습니다.

창작의 국제교류와 국제화의 선두에 서고자 갤러리 508은 근, 현대미술을 이끈 세계적인 작가들의 작품과 활동을 소개하는데 설립목적을 두고 있습니다. 서양미술사를 장식한 대가들 뿐만 아니라 현대미술사에 발자취를 남긴 현대창작의 선구자들, 그리고 미래의 창작을 이끌어갈 젊고 유능한 작가 발굴에도 아낌없는 노력을 하고자 합니다.

르네상스 400년 전통에 종지부를 찍고 근대회화의 시작을 알린 인상주의는 모네, 르누아르, 피사로와 같은 당대의 뛰어난 예술가의 세상을 보는 새로운 눈으로 탄생하였습니다. 하지만 그들이 세상에 빛을 보기까지는 이들의 작품을 전세계 미술관에 전파하고 고객들을 있게 해준 미술사의 가장 훌륭한 화상이었던 폴 뒤랑 뤼엘이라는 인물 덕분이었습니다. 20세기 미술의 발전 또한 예술가들의 작업을 혼신을 다해 대중에게 알리고자 노력해 온 뛰어난 갤러리들의 활약에서 비롯된 것임을 볼 때 예술가의 작업과 대중을 이어주는 가교역할을 해온 갤러리의 역할은 오늘 날에도 결코 작지 않을 것입니다.

Gallery 508 is nestled in Cheongdam, Seoul, affluent cultural neighborhood that is home to large number of well-established galleries and fashion houses. Our gallery is designed by Seung H-Sang, who has gained worldwide fame as an architect.

Gallery 508 inaugurated to play a critical role in engagement with modern and contemporary art that are more approachable not only to art enthusiasts but also those who purely love art. The focus of our gallery is to exhibit and represent some of most influential artist around the globe. It is also responsible for raising the international profile of a younger generation of emerging artists.

Making an inaugural chapter of curatorial ambition for the gallery, directors have built enduring creative relationships with artists and collectors and continue dedicating to cultivate collectors and working with artist from around the world. As an example, Gallery 508 was proudly selected as the first-ever South Korea based Gallery to curate some of privately owned masterpieces by Jean Pierre Raynaud, whose work was rewarded with the grand prize of sculpture by the city de Paris and with a prize by the UNESCO at the Havana Biennale.

Gallery 508 promises to delivery its mission through curatorial research, ambitious exhibitions, artist projects and collaborations.
