Bae Joonsung (b. 1967) studied Western painting at Seoul National University, where he also earned his graduate degree. Since receiving the “Today’s Young Artist Award” in 2000, he has exhibited widely, and internationally recognized for his The Costume of Painter series. Bae explored the boundaries of painting using vinyl film and lenticular techniques to create multi-layered and dynamic visual experiences. His innovative approach introduced spatial depth and movement into the realm of traditional painting.

This transition from lenticular and vinyl-based media back to traditional materials marks a reaffirmation of Bae’s deep connection to painting itself. Through this work, he continues his long-standing exploration of the intersection between illusion and reality, tradition and modernity.

His works are held in major international institutions such as the Centre Pompidou and the Foundation Louis Vuitton.

배준성은 1967년생으로 서울대학교 서양화를 전공하고 동대학원을 졸업하였고 2000년에 « 오늘의 젊은 예술가상 »을 수상하면서 작가로서의 본격적인 활동을 시작했다. 배준성은 비닐필름을 이용한 다중적 평면화 작업 « The Costume of Painter » 시리즈를 통해 세계적으로 인정받은 작가이다. 입체감의 표현효과가 가능한 렌티큘러 작업으로 회화의 시각적 공간확장성을 제시하면서 한층 더 주목받는 작가로 발돋움을 하였다.

작가는 비닐이라는 특수재료를 이용해 현실과 가상세계를 동시에 표현하는 교차된 이미지 회화를 구현함으로써 전통회화에 운동성과 공간감을 부여하였으며, 딱딱하고 고정된 개념의 평면회화를 복합적인 시각경험을 할 수 있는 현대적 창작물로 바꾸어 놓았다. 그는 전통회화에 현대적 재료의 융합을 통해 고전과 현대, 시간과 공간을 초월하는 회화의 확장성을 보여준다.

전통과 현대, 서양과 동양, 현실과 가상의 경계를 허무는 그의 작품은 파리 퐁피두센터를 비롯하여 루이뷔통 미술관등 세계적인 미술관과 애호가들이 소장함으로써 세계무대에서 널리 인정받고 있다.
